Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances Marketplace Launched
AWS Customers Can Now Buy and Sell Unused Reserved Instances
Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances (RIs) provide a significant discount up to 75% off the On-Demand price of Amazon EC2 instances. However, RIs are not always used to their full potential, resulting in underutilized capacity. To address this issue, Amazon has launched the EC2 Reserved Instances Marketplace, a platform that allows AWS customers to buy and sell unused Standard RIs.
The Reserved Instance Marketplace is open to all AWS customers. To sell an RI, a customer simply needs to list it on the Marketplace with a price. When a customer wants to buy an RI, they can browse the Marketplace and select the one that best meets their needs. The transaction is then completed through the AWS Management Console.
The Reserved Instance Marketplace is a great way for AWS customers to save money on their EC2 costs. By buying RIs from other customers, they can get the same level of discount without having to commit to a long-term contract. And for sellers, the Marketplace provides a way to recoup some of the cost of their unused RIs.
The Reserved Instance Marketplace is now available in all AWS regions.
