European Elections: Center-Right Wins, Greens Lose Ground

ARD ZDF and European Parliament Project Center-Right Victory

The center-right European People's Party (EPP), led by German candidate Ursula von der Leyen, has emerged as the clear winner in the 2019 European elections, according to early projections. The EPP is projected to secure a significant number of seats in the European Parliament.

Greens Lose Ground, AfD Gains

While the EPP celebrates its victory, other parties have seen their support dwindle. The Green Party, which had been a strong performer in previous elections, has lost ground, falling behind the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). The AfD has surged in popularity, becoming the second-strongest party in Germany, according to projections.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has also suffered a significant setback, with projections indicating a historic decline in their vote share. The SPD, which has traditionally been one of Germany's largest parties, has struggled to regain its former glory in recent years.
